RECENT EVENTS
In July 7 people, led by Tony Cross Rudkin, walked on the Wirral. The walk was rather longer than usual, being 7 miles at the final count, and was rather hard going. Five more folks joined them for lunch, some of whom had walked with the group for part of the walk. Les & Maureen Carney were among those who came along for lunch after having been housebound for a while. It was good to see them out and about again.
The next day seven people enjoyed what has been described as a “terrific performance” of “The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists” at the Everyman. Not only did our group enjoy the performance, but the whole audience showed a very warm-hearted response at the end of play.
July closed with lunch on the Mill Hotel’s barge in Chester. It was a good trip accompanied by a very good meal. The day was a success despite the barge not being able to travel the normal complete distance. There was a problem at one of the locks, but the group was able to walk along the pathway for a breath of fresh air.
Going in................
August started off with a visit to Fort Perch Rock in New Brighton. The day was wet and windy but not enough to put off the ten brave souls. The guides separated us into two groups and we visited the exhibits which were very interesting. I cannot remember seeing so many different parts of engines on display, but our questions were all answered by the guides. The visit ended at the top of Perch Rock, which gave good views of the river and surrounding area, but this is somewhere to go when the weather is warm and sunny, not in the wind and rain. This was another successful day out, and was followed by lunch at the Derby Pool, where we met up with Maureen & Les Carney and some of their family.

The August walk was led by Dave Shilliam through the hidden Christleton area. It was a varied walk, through fields with blackberries and along the Shropshire Union Canal. Ten people walked and later took lunch at the Black Dog pub. Photograph in August Posts
